Father Alleges Army Ignored Complaints of Afghan Slayings 9/22/10

Picture
Army Spc. Adam Winfield complained in Facebook messages to his father that he was being hounded by his platoon leader, Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs. Gibbs was angry when Winfield failed to lock the hatch of his armored vehicle, so the sergeant gave him extra duty. Fed up, Winfield tapped out a message to his father, Chris, on a January day, complaining that his mistakes were minor compared to what Gibbs had done. Chris Winfield says his son called Gibbs the "golden child of the platoon." "He said the golden child can do no wrong. He can commit murder ... and get away with it and everybody seems fine with it." The Army has now charged Gibbs with three murders. The charging documents allege the first murder occurred shortly before Winfield sent that message to his father. The Army says Gibbs tossed a grenade at an Afghan civilian and then ordered his soldiers to open fire, killing the man.

National News Questions     10/12/10

Picture
1. Emily Orellana had a very interesting topic posted on her Weebly page about loud car stereos. This article is labeled "How Loud is Too Loud?". This article is important to myself and classmates because even in Reno, there are people that turn the volume on their stereos to high and drive around literally "bumping" their music.
2. Emily Orellana also had an article that I did not post a report on labeled "Japan Bars Paris Hilton After Las Vegas Drug Plea". This article is not so obviously about Paris Hilton but instead, about the fact that after her many drug violations, Japan has denied her entry. Japan has very strict immigration laws.
3. News articles that make headlines are always very exciting or unbelievable articles that are very well put together and in depth. These articles make front lines because they are very interesting and easy to read. Most headline articles are important to read and did make headlines because
